E.D.S. Receives Patent on Nickel Metal Hydride Charger
|
|
Engineering Design & Sales, E.D.S., Inc., has received notice
from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that a patent has been
issued for the company's battery charging circuitry. The patent
(number 6,707,273) is an economical solution to controlled charging
of nickel metal hydride and other batteries which have a need for
a specific amount of temperature rise to insure near full capacity
charging, and, at the same time have a requirement for maximum safe
cell operating temperature. The circuit will monitor the charge
voltage of a battery pack over a range of indoor ambient temperature
and at a predetermined charge voltage/battery temperature point
switch to a safe trickle charge current. The simplicity of the circuit,
typically using an SCR, silicon controlled rectifier, controlled
by a NTC thermistor and a designed in voltage/temperature chart,
yields a very economical battery charger that rivals the performance
of battery chargers costing several times the E.D.S., Inc. design.
Charge rates up to 1-1/2C can be achieved. |
